Our visit to the EKKA 2015

It was a perfect day. First time in 20 years for me and the first as a family.
It brought back so many childhood memories.

Our main bedroom is nearly there!

Here is our main bedroom as it is today. I still need to find the perfect small storage unit for the corner of the room, but otherwise the room is all done. We are keeping it fairly minimal and calm. I looked for a few months for real retro bedside tables. I finally found them via eBay, but they needed a very good clean, sand and a repaint. We are loving our room, with it's high angled ceiling and large wardrobes. As a special treat we also got automatic block out blinds. Divine!

One of the finished bedside tables. We chose a very similar turquoise paint to the original, but painted the drawers white instead of yellow, Also see in the before pic that the feet had been painted over, I stripped that paint off by my little trick of soaking the feet in a jar water for a few hours, then just peeling the paint off by hand.

Room Details:

We have filled holes and cracks, painted ceiling and walls white and the wardrobe and window a semi gloss white. Removed the double curtains and replaced them with white block out roller blinds, the floors have been sanded and finished in a water based satin finish, The timber floors have turned out beautifully. Installed a new pendant light, wardrobe fixtures and a new door stop.

Due to all the hard work getting the walls all blemish free at the moment we are very reluctant to hang anything up on them and therefor having to put holes back in them. So for now, our walls have that minimalist look, which we are liking, but I am sure in a few years we may be ready to hang a few things up on the walls.

The only pics I had to use as the before photos are what I took during the building and pest inspection. It's a bit hard to compare different peoples furnishings, but it is a good example of how a room can be decluttered to make it look bigger and window treatments changed to make a room look brighter.

All furniture I have used is all reused from what I already owned. All of it is vintage hand me downs, lucky kerbside finds and op shop purchases, I painted a few of the items mint green, including the bedhead. The only new purchases are the Sheridan bedspread and the $5 kmart cloud pillow and the Flamingo pillow from Freedom.

My daughter is loving her room, It goes from spotlessly clean to extremely messy in a matter of minutes!

PS.. Sorry the photos are poor quality, they were taken on my phone, which is packing it in.

Nan's buffet...

Finally, we have a home that has the most perfect spot ever for Nan's buffet.
I have owned this for years now, it has served as a beauty room work bench, as storage in daughters room and then a room divider.

Finally in a spot that was made for buffets, it holds my collected and inherited china, just as it was meant to.
